Close-up Competition 2023

We had 6 performers and they had two tables to perform to so the evening was more like a real close-up table hopping gig. As we saw the performers in different orders dependant on which table we were on, the performer are listed below in no particular order.

Phil Pearson
Performed a version of Chicago opener, Overdraft, Blockhead, Odyssey (jumping ring), Rejoined, Eye candy and closed with an 8 ball production with in conjunction with DFB.

Jonny Richie
JR started off with a Mentalism style card transposition, move on to a stand up Monte, and closed with a coin routine.

Kevin Peel
Beginning with a nice chop cup with die, Kev then moved into card routine.

Stuart Grey
Divined the rolls of a dice, preformed some miracles on his and a borrowed phone calculator, proved he had erected the outcome of which cards would be chosen using a fair dice roll, and finished off with some Brass buttons.

David Sandeluss
David talked about travelling abroad & his daughter bringing him an unusual deck of cards back from one of her trips. The deck is normal, having all the suits etc, but all the faces have a different, well known city or resort from all over the world & the name of the place printed on each card. A spectator chose 4 cards and then selects one of them, which is placed face down on the table. Only the spectator knows the chosen card, but the deck itself also knew which card was chosen, the cards were then spread face down on the table…. the cards now display a well known image of the place that was chosen.

Next was a "gambling challenge" a spectator chose a card which is placed face down on the table. Then 6 small tins were shown & the spectator was given 6 different magnetic numbers (one to six) & is asked to place a number on each tin, they choose the number & which tin it should go on. The spectator was asked to shake a dice & whichever number was thrown, they open the corresponding tin, only to find a joker playing card and a Monopoly money note. The spectator repeated this process 5 times & each time, the selected tin was opened & contains the same items, the only tin left was for David, the spectator opens this tin to find a genuine £20 note, plus a playing card which matches the original chosen card!

Kevin Morton
Kevin's act was beyond description.

As is often the case, it was very close, but our winner was Kevin Morton.
